Responsible Gambling and Support
Updated
Gambling involves a risk of losing money. Treat it as a paid form of entertainment, not a dependable source of income. A bonus, system or previous win does not remove that risk.
Set limits before you start
- Decide how much time and money you can afford to spend before playing.
- Include every wager, extra feature, side bet and additional tournament entry in that limit.
- Take breaks and stop when you reach your limit.
- Avoid borrowing to gamble or increasing stakes to recover losses.
The Responsible Gambling Council’s safer-play guidance explains why a budget and realistic expectations matter.
Recognise when to take a break
Spending more than intended, chasing losses, hiding gambling or finding it hard to stop are reasons to pause and seek support. You do not need to wait until a problem becomes severe to ask for help.
Operators may offer spending limits, time-outs and account self-exclusion. Check what each tool covers, how long it lasts and whether separate services require separate action. Closing one account may not restrict access to every gambling website.
Ontario support and self-exclusion
iGaming Ontario’s Find Help page lists support resources and links to BetGuard, Ontario’s central self-exclusion programme for its regulated online gambling market.
ConnexOntario provides free, confidential information and support. The iGaming Ontario help page lists telephone 1-866-531-2600 and text 247247, along with its online contact options. Check the official service page for the latest ways to reach it.
Help elsewhere in Canada
Use your provincial gambling authority, lottery corporation or health service to find local support and self-exclusion options. The scope of a provincial programme may differ from tools offered by an individual operator.
Urgent support
If you are in immediate danger, call 911. In Canada, call or text 988 for suicide crisis support. 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline explains how its service works.
